What We Need:
We're looking for a Senior Manager - Risk & Compliance to play a key role in Spaceship Super’s Risk & Compliance function, ensuring all activities support the best financial interests of members and deliver strong risk and compliance outcomes.
The role will contribute to the development and ongoing maintenance of risk and compliance frameworks, provide advice to management and the board, and support the relationship with our external trustee.
What you'll be doing:
This role will be responsible for localising and embedding Group policies and procedures to ensure alignment with the Australian regulatory framework, including obligations under ASIC, APRA and the AFSL regime where relevant. The position will support the ongoing maintenance of an effective compliance monitoring program, working closely with Group stakeholders to ensure local regulatory requirements are appropriately reflected and operationalised. A strong commercial mindset is also required to support the responsible development and launch of products and services within Australia, ensuring regulatory compliance while enabling sustainable business growth.
As the Senior Manager - Risk & Compliance, you will take responsibility for:
- Risk & Compliance Framework – Maintain and enhance Spaceship Super’s risk and compliance framework, including risk identification, monitoring, incident management and control reviews.
- Regulatory Oversight – Ensure policies, products and marketing activities align with ASIC/APRA regulatory requirements, the AFSL framework and superannuation obligations.
- Monitor regulatory developments and industry guidance, assessing impacts to Spaceship Super and supporting the implementation of required changes.
- Support the development and execution of the compliance monitoring plan, including monitoring activities and follow-up reviews.
- Trustee Engagement – Partner with the external trustee to support effective governance and regulatory oversight.
- Provide support and guidance to staff on regulatory, policy and procedural issues and application
- Provide regulatory and compliance guidance in response to client and stakeholder enquiries, ensuring requests for information are addressed promptly and in line with internal policies and regulatory obligations.
- Governance & Reporting – Prepare and deliver risk and compliance reporting to senior management and relevant governance forums, including Board and Compliance committees where required.
- Identify, log and resolve compliance issues, client complaints and policy and regulatory breaches
- Develop and maintain constructive and transparent relationships with Australian regulators and relevant authorities, including ASIC and APRA where applicable, and ensure timely and effective responses to regulatory enquiries, information requests and supervisory engagement.
- Share knowledge and experience to support the development of more junior team members and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and professional certifications (e.g., law, finance, risk management, GRC);
- 10+ years’ experience in risk and compliance within financial services, superannuation or funds management, with proven leadership at a senior level;
- Deep knowledge of superannuation laws, the AFSL framework, and APRA/ASIC prudential standards. Demonstrated ability to apply the best financial interests duty and sole purpose test in decision‑making.
- Experience developing risk management and compliance frameworks, risk registers and reports; strong analytical and communication skills; ability to influence senior stakeholders and manage external trustee relationships;
- Experienced in successfully managing multiple projects at the same time;
- Able to work to short timelines in a fast-paced environment;
- Have excellent communication and presentation skills.
