About Zuba
About the role
We're looking for an FX Trader to run the desk that prices and executes Zuba's currency flow: quoting institutional clients, working orders across emerging-market pairs, and managing the risk that sits on our book between trade and settlement. You'll work alongside our Head of Finance and our existing trader, and report into our Head of Treasury as that hire lands.
This is not a role where you watch a screen and wait for the phone to ring. Our desk trades real size into markets where liquidity is thin, spreads move, and the onshore rate and the offshore rate are not the same number. Naira, shilling, rand, peso and the majors, against USDT and USDC. What you quote is what the company earns, and there is nowhere to hide a bad fill.
What you'll do
Price and execute client trades across emerging-market pairs and majors, against USDT and USDC
Own the desk's risk through the day: position, exposure by pair, and what is still open at cut-off
Build and manage the liquidity book: source counterparties and providers, put them in competition, and reduce single-source dependency in every corridor we run
Hold the line on spread discipline: know what each corridor should earn, and know when a ticket is being priced to win rather than to make money
Work the onshore/offshore gap: in markets with more than one rate, work out which one is real and price against it
Make the pricing systematic: benchmarks, rate sheets, and quoting logic clear enough that engineering can automate the repeatable parts
Keep the handover to treasury clean: your positions are their funding problem, and the line between who executes and who funds does not blur
Keep the execution record straight: every ticket, fill and rate reconstructable after the fact
Who you are
You've actually traded: 3+ years on a desk pricing and executing FX, with live positions and real limits. Enough time to have been wrong in size and to know what you did next.
You know emerging-market currencies: you can talk about liquidity windows, settlement timing and parallel rates in African, Asian or LatAm pairs without reaching for a textbook.
You're commercially sharp, not just technically correct: you understand that a fill is only good if the trade made money, and you can tell the difference between winning a client and buying one.
You're disciplined about risk: you size positions deliberately, you know where your limits are, and you flag a problem while it is still small.
You're a builder, not a button-pusher: you'll quote the ticket manually today and then design the thing that means nobody has to quote it manually next quarter.
You're straight about your numbers: every figure has a trade behind it. You'd rather report a smaller true number than a bigger soft one.
Bonus points for:
Direct experience in African currencies
Time at a remittance business, cross-border payments company, or an emerging-markets-focused broker
Crypto OTC or stablecoin desk experience
Having built or specified automated pricing rather than only consuming it
Some topics you'll think about
When a currency has an onshore rate and an offshore rate, which one is real, and what do you quote off?
One large ticket at a thin margin, or several small ones at a wide one: when is the big ticket worth taking?
How much of a corridor's flow should sit with a single liquidity provider before the concentration risk costs more than the pricing saves?
Which parts of quoting should stay with a human, and which should be automated first?

Intro chat (30 mins) with Ali (Head of Finance): an informal conversation about your background, what you've traded, and what you're looking for.
Trading deep dive (45 mins) with Josiah (CEO & Co-Founder): walk us through how you've priced and risk-managed a live book, a trade that went against you and what you did, and how you'd build this desk here. We want specifics.
Work trial (2 days, paid): the best way to see if we're a good fit is to work together, and we pay for your time. You'll spend two days with us at our Central London office, on live pricing and real positions alongside the team.
