About PL Dev Guild

PL Dev Guild is a global virtual cohort program designed to support and reward technical contributors to leading open source projects. It focuses on creating real-world impact through contributions to key technologies like IPFS, Filecoin, libp2p, and Drand. The program offers participants the opportunity to work on crucial issues, improve their technical skills, and be retroactively awarded FIL based on the value and impact of their contributions.

The program provides a collaborative environment where participants can connect with like-minded individuals, receive tailored resources, and benefit from technical mentorship and career training. PL Dev Guild aims to empower contributors by offering educational and financial opportunities, mentorship from open source leaders, and pathways to future career opportunities.

Job Requirements

As PL Dev Guild Lead, you will be responsible for shaping PL Dev Guild into a high impact, sustainable program that onboards open source developers onto projects and teams in the Protocol Labs Network.

You will need to drive the effort to find product market fit, ensuring the program meets the needs of developers and projects, then scale the program sustainably.

Your role may include:

  • General Operations
    • Oversee daily operations, including strategic planning, resource allocation, team and risk management, performance monitoring, and financial oversight.
    • Identify, scope, and prioritize key challenges faced by public goods projects within the Protocol Labs Network that can be addressed by individual open-source software contributors through the program.
    • Utilize first principles thinking to develop solutions and playbooks for key challenges, such as vision alignment, setting direction, continuous improvement, decision support, ecosystem growth, Dev Guild structure and governance, and more.
    • Lead engagement with the PL Dev Guild Advisers on priority issues.
  • Strategy
    • Lead and execute PL’s strategic initiatives to ensure the PL Dev Guild becomes a sustainable and regenerative program that generates revenue through partnerships and services.
    • Refine and implement the strategy to achieve the program’s goals.
  • Finance and Legal
    • Develop a sustainable and regenerative budgeting structure to expand PL Dev Guild’s reach and impact over time.
    • Collaborate with the Funding lead to manage the program's daily financial operations, including budget creation, reconciliation, and record keeping.
    • Oversee the creation of legal entities through which PL Dev Guild operates, including devising legal structuring and managing all reporting needs.
  • Go-To-Market / Partnerships
    • Oversee the go-to-market and marketing strategies for PL Dev Guild to maximize the reach of high-potential contributors.
    • Work with the program lead to create compelling partnership proposals to ensure PL Dev Guild is well capitalized to have long-lasting impact.
  • Best Practices
    • Implement best practices across open source programs and communities, synthesizing and sharing learnings to improve overall program effectiveness.

You may be a fit for this role if you....

  • Have 6-8 years of experience in an entrepreneurial role, technical product management, or web3 ecosystem lead role.
  • Are familiar with web3 and Protocol Labs network projects and technologies (IPFS, Filecoin, libp2p, etc.).
  • Experience working with open source and web3 developer teams.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
  • Experience collaborating with leaders at major companies or fast-paced startups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to quickly align a broad group of stakeholders.

Bonus Points

  • Experience leading from zero to one.
  • Experience running agile teams and building culture within those environments.
  • Experience with open source communities/projects.
  • Experience with distributed orgs.
  • Background in software engineering.
