About the team:

The Data community at Luno, comprising Data Engineers, Scientists, and Analysts, uncovers valuable insights from the vast amounts of data we gather from our customers and platform. These insights are crucial for guiding our product development and business strategy.

The Data Engineering team at Luno is the backbone of Luno’s data ecosystem. The core mission is to transform complex, raw data into high-quality, reliable, and accessible information for every critical business function. We design, build, and maintain the advanced Data Warehouse and Data Platforms focusing on speed, quality and robust data governance, driving informed decisions and unlocking business value across the organisation.

The role in a nutshell:

We are looking for a skilled Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain robust pipelines in our data warehouse that power our organisation. You will be responsible for ensuring high-quality, scalable data is accessible and reliable for diverse stakeholders across the business.

Your mission will be:

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Data Scientists, Analysts, and Product teams to translate complex business requirements into technical objectives and data models.
• Dimensional modelling: Build and maintain Kimball models
• Pipeline Development: Design, construct, and scale data pipelines using ETL/ELT frameworks to ingest data from diverse sources.
• Data Governance: Implement rigorous data quality checks, monitoring, and validation protocols to ensure high quality and compliant data.(including but not limited to quality checks, code reviews, release management, version control etc
• Optimisation: Continuously tune and optimise queries and storage patterns to minimise latency and reduce cloud infrastructure costs.

A little about you:

• You are passionate about data and are excited about a rapidly changing field.
• You have a solid grasp of dimensional data modeling, database management, and modern ETL/ELT techniques.
• You are intellectually curious, persistent in solving complex data puzzles, and stay ahead of emerging industry trends.
• You thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and can work with high autonomy or as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• You are an enthusiastic team player with strong communication skills and have the ability to explain data concepts to non-experts in a clear, and structured manner

The ideal Lunaut will have:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in the natural sciences or technical fields such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or Economics
• Proven experience as a Data Engineer or similar role.
• Experience working with cloud technologies
• Advanced SQL skills and experience with relational databases
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to successfully complete projects with large and/or incomplete data sets
• Enthusiasm to work in the crypto industry
• Great analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities

What will really get you noticed:

• Experience working with Databricks
• Experience working with business intelligence platform (Thoughtspot, Looker, Qlik or others)
• Solid understanding and experience of ELT processes
• Solid experience in building dimensional models (Kimball, Inmon, data vault and etc)
• Experience with designing and implementing analytical data warehouse solutions within a data lake architecture
