Proof of work
The team
The Growth Engineering team builds the experiences that connect people to our ecosystem for the first time — and keep them coming back. We design and ship the systems behind our marketing funnels, signup and KYC flows, and the key engagement features that help new users fund their accounts and explore our products.
Our work spans Payward products across web and mobile, helping users around the world discover, trust, and engage with our ecosystem. By combining product thinking with engineering excellence, we turn ideas into measurable improvements across acquisition, activation, and long-term engagement.
Within Growth, the Onboarding teams focus on creating seamless entry points to Payward products — guiding users from account creation through their first revenue-generating action with clarity, confidence, and minimal friction.
The Role
As a Staff Mobile Engineer on the Growth Onboarding team, you will lead complex, cross-cutting technical initiatives that shape mobile onboarding experiences for Payward’s products.
You will drive architectural direction, mentor engineers, and ensure the systems we build are scalable, reliable, and capable of supporting rapid experimentation.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role for engineers who enjoy translating product opportunities into robust mobile systems that drive measurable activation. You will partner closely with Product, Design, Data, and Marketing teams to design onboarding experiences that guide users from account creation to their first revenue-generating action across Payward products.
The opportunity
Lead the technical direction for mobile onboarding initiatives across Payward products
Design and evolve high-quality mobile applications using React Native, ensuring performance, reliability, and maintainability at scale
Partner with Product, Design, and Data teams to identify onboarding and activation opportunities and translate them into measurable engineering solutions
Architect reusable mobile components, patterns, and systems that support experimentation and rapid iteration across onboarding flows
Mentor engineers and guide architectural decisions across mobile and product engineering teams
Ensure strong engineering standards across the mobile stack, including performance, security, testing, and maintainability
Collaborate across teams to align on architecture, tooling, and technical strategy for Payward product onboarding experiences.
Skills you should HODL
We’d love to see some of the following — but don’t worry if you don’t meet every point.
Proven experience leading large-scale mobile projects or owning critical mobile systems end-to-end
Deep expertise in JavaScript or TypeScript, with strong experience building applications using React Native
Strong understanding of mobile architecture, performance optimization, and scalable UI systems
Experience designing systems that support experimentation and data-driven product development
A product mindset — you think about user impact and measurable outcomes, not just implementation
Excellent collaboration and communication skills across engineering, product, and design teams
Experience operating autonomously in a distributed, remote-first environment
Nice to haves
Experience with native mobile development (iOS or Android)
Experience building consumer fintech or crypto mobile applications
Familiarity with modern frontend tooling, testing frameworks, or real-time technologies such as WebSockets
Background in growth engineering, experimentation platforms, or user lifecycle optimization
How You Lead
You set technical direction through context and clarity, empowering engineers to make sound decisions
You mentor through collaboration and example, raising the engineering bar across teams
You communicate openly and proactively, aligning multiple stakeholders around shared goals
You balance rapid experimentation with long-term technical excellence
How We Work
We give engineers ownership and trust them to ship high-impact work with craftsmanship and accountability
We move quickly, experiment often, and learn fast from data and feedback
We work asynchronously across time zones, supporting each other with open communication and shared goals
Unless a specific application deadline is stated in the job posting, applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
Please note, applicants are permitted to redact or remove information on their resume that identifies age, date of birth, or dates of attendance at or graduation from an educational institution.
We consider qualified applicants with criminal histories for employment on our team, assessing candidates in a manner consistent with the requirements of the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.
Kraken is powered by people from around the world and we celebrate all Krakenites for their diverse talents, backgrounds, contributions and unique perspectives. We hire strictly based on merit, meaning we seek out the candidates with the right abilities, knowledge, and skills considered the most suitable for the job. We encourage you to apply for roles where you don't fully meet the listed requirements, especially if you're passionate or knowledgable about crypto!
We may ask candidates to complete job-related skills or work-style assessments as part of our hiring process. These assessments are designed to evaluate competencies relevant to the role and are applied consistently across candidates for similar positions. Assessment results are considered alongside other relevant information, such as experience and interviews, and are not the sole basis for any employment decision.
