Position Summary:
Grayscale Investments is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to join our Engineering team and own the AWS platform that underpins all of Grayscale's technology delivery. You will lead cloud initiatives end to end, including account and environment foundations, new environment builds and migrations, developer self-service, reliability, and cost governance. This is a shared enabling role. Your work will make every squad faster by giving them secure, observable, and repeatable paths to production. You will partner closely with engineering leads, architecture, and cybersecurity to build a modern, well-governed cloud environment. This role reports into the Head of Engineering and works closely with our Lead Architect.
Tech Stack:
We utilize AWS as our cloud platform, structured through AWS Organizations and Control Tower, enabling scalable and secure infrastructure. Our infrastructure is managed using Terraform, and we are increasingly adopting containerized workflows alongside serverless services such as AWS Lambda. We rely on GitLab for our CI/CD processes. There is significant opportunity to modernize our cloud posture, accelerate developer productivity, and build an internal developer platform.
Responsibilities:
- Lead AWS cloud initiatives end to end, including new account and environment builds, workload migrations, and platform modernization
- Own the AWS landing zone and account vending model so new teams, products, and environments can be stood up quickly and consistently
- Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure on AWS using Terraform, Docker, and related IaC tooling
- Own and evolve CI/CD pipelines in GitLab to ensure smooth, secure, and efficient software delivery
- Embed security, compliance, and governance into the platform by default, partnering with the Head of Cybersecurity on controls, ITGC evidence, and audit readiness
- Lead FinOps practices, including tagging, cost visibility, Savings Plans, rightsizing, and cost tradeoff recommendations to leadership
- Own platform reliability, including observability, SLOs, DR and multi-region patterns, capacity planning, and incident and on-call practices
- Build golden paths and reusable Terraform modules that let squads self-serve infrastructure, pipelines, and environments
- Ensure high-quality infrastructure delivery through strong collaboration with product, engineering, and security
- Set architecture standards and technical direction for cloud and delivery, in coordination with engineering leadership
- Evaluate and integrate platform tooling and partners, including build vs. buy decisions
- Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and platform engineering
- Mentor engineers across the organization on infrastructure, cloud architecture, and operational excellence, acting as a leverage point for work you do not personally deliver
Qualifications:
- 8+ years in platform engineering, DevOps, or infrastructure roles with deep AWS experience across Organizations, networking, IAM, serverless, and containers.
- Demonstrable track record of setting technical direction that others adopted: a pattern, standard, or platform used beyond your own project.
- Experience leading a cloud migration, account restructure, or greenfield AWS environment build.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar).
- Deep experience with containerization (Docker, ECS, EKS) and serverless architectures (Lambda, Step Functions).
- Expertise in CI/CD pipeline design and management, preferably with GitLab.
- Solid understanding of security, compliance automation, and policy-as-code as default parts of platform design.
- Deep knowledge of cloud governance, cost optimization, and architectural best practices on AWS.
- Ability to translate business and engineering needs into infrastructure solutions and platform capabilities.
- Experience building an internal developer platform or self-service tooling treated as a product.
- Strong Agile proficiency with practical application to deliver incremental, high-quality solutions.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills, capable of influencing both technical and business stakeholders.
- Ability to manage complex project timelines in fast-paced environments.
- Experience working in a regulated industry and/or Financial Services.
- Strong interpersonal skills, adept at building collaborative relationships across teams and stakeholders.
- AWS certifications (expected, or willingness to obtain)
