The Customer Administration Engineering (CAE) team is a vital part of Coinbase’s Enterprise Applications and Architecture org, responsible for decomposing and/or building bespoke internal services that integrate with customer data, and enabling an improved and more secure customer administration platform that streamlines many internal business unit processes across Coinbase using these tools. This helps resolve customer issues faster and with greater accuracy and ultimately, this leads to higher customer satisfaction levels and a better overall experience for Coinbase workforce and customers.Role - The Engineering Manager to manage, enable, and grow the CAE team of 3 FTEs and 10 Contractors, leading the team to help build a best in class customer administration platform and services and support Coinbase’s goals of improving security, compliance, and cost by decomposing monolithic and outdated services to our current standards. You will be joining an agile and tight-knit team that is focused on delivering value. We are seeking individuals who thrive in a continuous learning and high level of ownership environment and who are committed to innovation and customer experience.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Manage a team of 13~ Engineers (FTEs and Contractors) to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions against the product backlog of requirements and functional capabilities
  • Collaborate with product and customer experience teams with demos and feedback to help build the next generation customer experience for Coinbase customers
  • Deliver cross-functional outcomes to complex problems in collaboration with product, design, security, data or other engineering teams
  • Demonstrate a keen awareness of Coinbase’s unique paved path solutions, and build upon them to efficiently deliver your team's solutions.
  • Create an environment where innovative ideas are regularly generated, vetted, and transformed into action.
  • Foresee potential issues before they arise and adapt their own approach, working within constraints to avoid adverse impact.
  • Communicate across the company to technical and non-technical leaders with ease via weekly and monthly program updates.
  • Quickly distill complex technical themes so that an entry level, non-tech team member can understand them.
  • Architect technical solutions for the long-term, balancing time-to-market versus the health of the platforms.
  • Iteratively refine the platform architecture and work with other platform teams and the wider engineering org in enabling key backend services
  • Develop repeatable processes that enable the team to operate in agile and efficient manner across core disciplines like Engineering Maturity, Release management, Production Support, Agile, and Software Development Life Cycle
  • Partner with your direct’s on impactful career development plans with consistent mentorship to level up their engineering ability
  • Support and mentor junior team members in design techniques and best practices in coding, testing, release/deploy process, documentation, metrics/logging and scaling

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

  • 8+ years hands-on development experience with developing and architecting large-scale, high-traffic platforms and implementing scalable, robust services and applications in the real world
  • 4+ years of people management experience leading a team of 5 or more full time employees
  • Ability to partner effectively with cross-functional stakeholders across various teams within a large organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong agile mindset, able to orchestrate technical resources in a resource challenged environment
  • Proven ability to build order out of chaos, with minimal guidance
  • Create and maintain foundational infrastructure libraries utilized by every engineering team in production (e.g., Coinbase Server Framework (CSF), rate limiters, memcached / MongoDB clients, circuit breakers, observability integration, etc.)
  • Experience in AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CircleCI, BuildKite or similar
  • Experience in any two of SQL/NoSQL DBs, gRPC, GraphQL, Kafka, MQ
  • Proficiency in Ruby or Golang

Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your work location, the target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full time offers from Coinbase also include target bonus + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).
Pay Range:
$201,450$237,000 USD
